Hi, Eva!. Just a few observations from an ethologist. It is debatable whether or not women have a biological "mother instinct" due the androgenic changes that accompany childbirth. However, having a sex drive is not. Humans have the same sex drive as dogs, cattle, goats, and other mammals. Most living things evolved this drive to ensure the perpetuation of the species. It's a biological imperative.
However, that is not the same as wanting children. Other mammals copulate with no thought of reproduction. At its most basic level, humans do too. We would still copulate even if we were unable to imagine having children. Wanting children is part of the human zeitgeist.
Not too long ago, it wasn't possible to have sex without children being an expected outcome. Today, it is. So, for the first time in human evolution, a woman can attend to her biological need to copulate free of having children being an expected consequence. It truly is a freedom that has been a long time coming.
BTW, love your courage and independence. I spent most of my early life in college, but if I could go back, maybe . . .

So so so appreciate that you are shining a light on a life without children. I wanted children, but was unable to. However, this journey without children has been far from sad.
